Nurul Islam Sujan (born 05 January 1956) is a Bangladeshi Bangladeshi lawyer, politician, incumbent minister and Member of Parliament representing Panchagarh-2 constituency. He is the current minister of Railways since 7th January 2019.

Sujan was born in Panchagarh District of Bangladesh. He is the youngest son among seven siblings of late Imajuddin Ahmed and late Kobijan Nesa. His elder brother late Md. Sirajul Islam was a veteran politician and freedom fighter. Sujan obtained his B.Sc (Hons.) degree and M.Sc degree from Dhaka University in zoology in the year 1978 and 1979 respectively. He has completed LLB in 1983 from Dhaka University. He was enlisted as an Advocate from Bangladesh Bar Council in 1985. Later on, he was enlisted as an Advocate in the High court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court in 1987 and he has been performing as a senior lawyer for last 33 years with reputation.

Sujan was elected as Science Common Room Secretary of DUCSU (Dhaka University Central Students Union) in 1980-81. He was the International Affairs Secretary of Central Chatra League. He was also a senate member of Dhaka University.

As a professional lawyer, Sujan was elected as General Secretary of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association in 2007-2008. In his professional career, he conducted many sensational cases of National importance including historical Bangabandhu murder case and Jail murder of four national leaders inside Dhaka Central Jail on November 03, 1975. 

He was the member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and also Parliamentary Standing Committee of Ministry of Home Affairs of 9th parliament. At 10th Parliament, he was the member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Shipping and the Standing Committee on Private Member’s bills and Resolutions and also member of Standing Committee on the Government Accounts Committee.

Sujan was the president of Awami Ainjibi Parishad of Bangladesh Supreme Court and Joint secretary of Central Awami Ainjibi Parishad. He was also the Law Affairs Secretary of Central Jubo League, a youth organization of the Bangladesh Awami League. At present, He is the president of Panchagarh District Awami League elected in 2004 and still holding the same post as President of Panchagar District Awami League.

On 30th December, 2018 Advocate Nurul Islam Sujan was elected as the Member of the Parliament for the 3rd time in 11th Parliament. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appointed him as a Cabinet Minister and gave him in charge of the Ministry of Railways and he took oath as a minister on 7th January 2019. Since then, he is working as a minister in charge of the Ministry of Railways.
