Background:

Kazi Feroz Rashid(born 2 February 1947) is a Bangladeshi politician and the incumbent Member of Parliament from Dhaka-6constituencyas a candidate of Jatiya Party. He started politics from a very early life, when he was in class nine in school he participated in the movement against Pakistan's the then President General Ayub Khan’ education system. He completed a BA, MA and a LLB.

Rashid was an adventurous warrior of the 1971 battlefield, hero of the revolt against the Agartala conspiracy case, elected VP of Jagannath College 67-69, repeatedly imprisoned student leader in the tumultuous student movement of the 60s, twice elected senator of Dhaka University.

Rashid is the president of Bangladesh Surfing Association. He served as the president of Bangladesh Cinema Halls Owners Association.

  • He was elected Member of Parliament from Tungipara-Kotalipara in Gopalganj in 1986 and served as a Minister in the Government of Bangladesh.
  • During the catastrophic floods of 1988, he served as Minister of Relief and Rehabilitation with efficiency and integrity. Under the direction of President Ershad, the Bangladesh Army conducted massive relief work among the flood victims across the country. Not a single person was killed in the catastrophic floods.
  • After that he took charge as the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and replaced the old technology of telephone cable connection with microwave link and brought the whole country under modern telecommunication system. During his tenure he established telephone exchanges in every Upazila.
  • He started the revolution in the telecommunication system by issuing the first mobile phone license in the country.
