Abidur Rahman (04 February – 08 October 2012) is a Bangladeshi a poet, storyteller, journalist, and lyricist. In his early life, he taught English language and literature for a few days at Brahmanbaria College and Dhaka University Night College. His first book of poetry, Bipanna Balay, was published in 1997 by Mandal Book House, Calcutta. Several plays written by him were telecasted at BTV and each got immensely popular. His long play English albums were jointly released by His Masters Voice Co. and EMI from Kolkata.

Rahman is the only Asian member of ‘British Songs Writers Guild.’ Singers like Hemonto, Sondha, Sotinath, Utpola gave their voice in his Bangla songs and Usha Uttap in his English songs. He was the editor of daily ‘The People’ and daily ‘Gonobangla’ which contributed as a strong voice and spokesperson of our liberation war. On 25th March 1971, the Pakistani Military group destroyed the office of ‘The People’ with Tanks and Grenades. Later on, he was the editor of The World Times, London which used to publish from London and ‘Illustrated News Weekly’ which was published from Dhaka.

Rahman was one of the five people who were sentenced to 14 years imprisonment without any trial alongside Syed Nazrul Islam and Taz Uddin Ahmed by Pakistani Military for being a part of introducing the Mujib Nagar Government. During the liberation war, he used to publish the English weekly ‘The People’ from ‘Lok Shebok’ office of Kolkata as a spokesman of the war. After the assassination of Sheikh Mujib, he got arrested by the self-confessed killer of Bongobondhu on 22th August, 1975. Later on, he was living in London and Bucharest of Romania. Professionally, he is the Chairman of Nippon Group and Skyway Group. He has traveled all over the world many times. Rahman wrote around 800 Hindi and English songs for Bombay films.
