Muhammad Zamir (born 04 September 1945) is a Bangladeshi former career diplomat. He has worked as Ambassador in various countries in Europe-Italy, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland. He has also been Head of the Political Division of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Secretariat, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, FAO, the World Food Programme, International Fund for Agricultural Development and the European Communities.

Zamir was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, India and was the elder son of Late Justice Muhammad Asir and Late Husne Ara Asir.He passed the matriculation examinations from St. Gregory's High School, Dhaka and intermediate from Notre Dame College, Dhaka. He obtained BA honors from Dhaka University in 1966 and and MA in 1967 from the same University where he specialized in literature and law. He became a CSP (Civil Service of Pakistan) officer in 1968. He also studied Arabic and International Relations at the British Middle East Center for Arabic Studies in Shemlan, Lebanon, International Humanitarian Law in Geneva, Switzerland and Peace and Security Studies in Uppsala, Sweden.

Zamir has also been Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka and Chief Information Commissioner of the Information Commission of Bangladesh with the rank and status of Minister of State. From July 2012 to June 2015 he was also Member, Independent Appeals Panel, Asian Development Bank, Manila, Philippines.

Since September 2012 Zamir has been Member of the Advisory Council of the Prime Minister of the Bangladesh Awami League.

Zamir is also the President of the Bangladesh Folklore Research Centre, Dhaka, Chairman, Bangladesh Renewable Energy Society, Chairman, Institute of Conflict, Law and Development Studies, Dhaka, Alternate President of the Bangladesh Institute for Law and International Affairs, Dhaka. He also practices law as an Advocate in the Chamber of Dr. M. Zahir and Associates, Dhaka.

Zamir has published twenty books dealing with Human Rights and International Law, Islamic theology, Adages in Bengali, contemporary international issues and subjects of importance to Bangladesh and South Asia. This includes three books of poetry.

Zamir was honoured with the title of Distinguished Fellow of the Bangla Academy, Dhaka in December, 2014 for his contribution to Diplomacy and Intellectual Pursuit.
