Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed (born 07 October 1956) is a Bangladeshi physician and academic. He is serving as Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He served as Pro Vice Chancellor (Administration) of BSMMU and Secretary General of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA). He is an active member of various professional organizations. He is the President of Bangladesh Community Ophthalmology Society, Bangladesh Acupuncture Plastic Surgeon's Society, President of Bangladesh Academy of Ophthalmology and Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad, BSMMU and Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC).

Ahmed was born in the village of Khairhat in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj district. The son of Shamsuddin Ahmed and Hosne Ara Begum. He passed S.S.C from Kasiani GC High School in 1972 and H.S.C from Government Rajendra College in 1974. He completed MBBS from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC), Barisal in 1982. He obtained Diploma in Ophthalmology (DO) from IPGMR (now, BSMMU) in 1985. He achieved MS in Ophthalmology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in 2004.

Ahmed joined the government service in 1982 as an assistant surgeon. He has served as Medical Officer, Resident Surgeon and Registrar in various medical colleges and hospitals across the country. He became Assistant Professor (Ophthalmology) in 1991 and held the same post till 1998.

On March 24, 1998, Ahmed joined the then Institute of Post Graduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR) as an Assistant Professor (Ophthalmology). On 30 April 1998, IPGMR was promoted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He was promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, BSMMU in 2001 and Professor in 2009. He was the president of the department from 2009 to 2013. When the Department of Community Ophthalmology was started at BSMMU, he became the Professor and President of the newly established Department.

Apart from providing teaching and medical services, Ahmed has held various important positions. He is a member of BSMMU's Syndicate and Academic Council, and holds several important positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Preventive and Social Medicine and Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of BSMMU.

Ahmed took over as the Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on March 29, 2021 for the next three years.
