Zaheed Farooque (born 21 January 1950) is a Bangladeshi politician and incumbent Member of Parliament representing Barisal-5 constituency. He is a retired army officer. In 2018 he got the nomination of Bangladesh Awami League in the 11th National Parliament Election and elected Member of Parliament for the first time. Although elected for the first time, he has always been active in local politics with various social service works in continuation of the family tradition. Farooq was appointed as State Minister of Water Resources Ministry in Sheikh Hasina's fourth cabinet.
Farooque was born in Barisal district. He graduate from University of Peshawar and retired as a Colonel after a long career of 34 years in the army. During his career, he served in various important positions of military strategic leadership at home and abroad. He is also a proud member of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.
Farooque currently is the president of Bangladesh Water Development Board, River Research Institute, Water Resources Planning Agency and member of National Committee on Water Management and other related fields.
