Shirin Akhter (born 12 April 1954) a struggling woman face, a relentless activist for human rights including women's rights in Bangladesh. She is the General Secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and the incumbent Member of Parliament representing the Feni-1 constituency since January 2014.

Shirin was born in a noble Muslim family of Feni district. She was actively involved in student politics. She completed Honors and Masters from Dhaka University.

Shirin engaged in politics in school life. She was the President of Chhatra League Badrunnessa College Committee and actively participated in the liberation war. She was the social service secretary of Dhaka University's Shamsunnahar Hall Students' Union in DUCSU elections. She was tried by a military court in 1975 and served two years of rigorous imprisonment.

Shirin played an important role as the central leader of Sramik Jot, SCOP, and United Women's Society in the mass uprising of 1990. With a long and colorful political career, she has extensive organizational skills and served in various important positions of JSD and Bangladesh Chhatra League. She is the ounding president of 'Karmjeevi Nari' organization for women's equal rights and dignity.

Shirin attended the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing as a state representative and the ILO Convention (1996, 98, and 2011) on global politics and socio-cultural awareness.

Shirin is the General Secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, the faction led by Hasanul Haq Inu. Inu appointed her the General Secretary of the party on 12 March 2016. The party then split in two over opposition to her appointment by some party members. After a hearing Bangladesh Election Commission recognized the faction led by Inu and Shirin as the mainstream fraction of the party.
