Professor Abu Ahmed (born 01 February 1949) is a Bangladeshi Economics educator, writer and stock market analyst. He is a professor in the Dhaka University Economics Department, is also an advisor to the Securities and Exchange Commission, a director of the Chittagong Stock Exchange, and former Pro-Vice Chancellor at Southeast University.

Ahmed was born in a noble Muslim family of Feni district. He is the son of Nur Ahmed and Azifa Ahmed. He got placed in the merit list and passed the secondary and higher secondary examinations. He completed his Bachelor with honours from Dhaka University in 1970; Master of Science from Islamabad University, Pakistan in 1972 and Master of Arts from York University, Toronto in 1974.

Ahmed has taught in various universities at home and abroad and is currently a Professor of Economics department at Dhaka University. He served as teaching assistant at Northeastern University in Boston from 1982-1984; lecturer of University of Massachusetts in Boston, 1984; lecturer at University of Sierra Leone from 1975-1976; lecturer, Dhaka University from 1977-1978; assistant professor, Dhaka University from 1978-1985; associate professor, Dhaka University from 1985-1993 and professor since 1993. He also served as Board director of Economics Research Unit from 1989-1991, Kohinoor Chemical Company Ltd., since 1989. He is the President of Bangladesh Share Investors Forum, since 1990. He also served as a Portfolio investment advisor of Delta Life Insurance Company Ltd.

Ahmed served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Shilpa Bank 2002-2003. Besides working as a member of various committees/commissions formed by the government. He is a Government Appointed Director of Chittagong Stock Exchange. He is also an elected member of Dhaka University Senate.

Ahmed has been listed as a noteworthy Economics educator by Marquis Who's Who.
