Dr. A K Azad Khan (born 02 May 1941) is a National Professor of Bangladesh. He is a Medicine & Gastroenterology Specialist. He served as the President of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh since 2007, Board of Trustees Chairman of Bangladesh University of Health Sciences and Governing Body Chairman of Ibrahim Medical College.

Khan was born in Barisal district. He earned MBBS, DPhil (Oxon), FCPS (BD), FRCP (London), Honoris causa Medicinae Doctorem (Basel). He is a Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology at Birdem General Hospital & Ibrahim Medical College.

Khan was Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology, IPGMR, Dhaka from 1970 to 1972. Postgraduate studies under Faculty of Clinical Medicine at University of Oxford from 1972 to 1977. Associate Professor of Gastroenterology, IPGMR, Dhaka from 1978 to 1984. Professor of Gastroenterology, IPGMR, Dhaka, from 1984 to 1987. Director of Research, Development and Academy, BIRDEM, from 1990 to 1998. Honorary Sr. Consultant, Gastroenterology, BIRDEM, Dhaka since 1987 till date. Secretary General (Elected), Diabetic Association of Bangladesh, since 1998 to 2007. President (Elected), Diabetic Association of Bangladesh since 2007. Khan was awarded Moulana Akram Khan Gold Medal for contribution in Medical Sciences; Sher-e-Bangla Award for social services; NIPA Foundation Award for social services; Honoree Bangladesh Medical Association of North America; Nawab Sir Solimullah Gold Medal; Health Award for Extra Ordinary Contribution in Diabetes; Dr Ibrahim Gold Medal in recognition of contribution to healthcare; Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal; Global Award, International Diabetes Federation; Awarded, Dharitri Bangladesh; "Gyanalok Puraskar 2017” for  outstanding contribution to the country's medical and health sector by Agrashar Bikrampur Foundation; “Kazi Mahbubullah Award 2019” for lifetime achievement; “The Independence Day Award 2018” from the Govt. of Bangladesh for Social services. This is the highest National Award.

Khan has published over 150 journal articles which includes book chapters and books written in Bangla. He is past editor of the Bangladesh Medical and Research Council (BMRC).

As the founder President of Bangladesh Gastroenterology Society and the founder Professor of Gastroenterology Khan initiated and organized Gastroenterology services in Bangladesh; As the founder General Secretary of Bangladesh Endocrinology Society initiated and organized endocrine services in Bangladesh; Has been involved with the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS) since 1977 in different capacities and have been the chief organizer of many Healthcare Programs including Primary Prevention Program of Diabetes in Bangladesh; Successfully completed a Micro Health Insurance Study on Garments Workers in Bangladesh and piloted a comprehensive healthcare on several thousand garment workers; Has initiated program on public awareness activities for the prevention of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases through religious leaders. This has attracted worldwide attention; He has initiated safe pregnancy and prevention of diabetes mellites through Qazis (Marriage Registrar); The above programs will play a special role in accelerating the "Health Care for All" program of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Khan was former President, Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG); President (Elect), The IDF South-East Asia (SEA) Region.

Khan is Fellow, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS); Honorary member, International Diabetes Federation (IDF); Honorary Fellow, Bangla Academy.
