Ganajagaran Mancha hails Nizami verdict

Ganajagaran Mancha on Wednesday expressed its satisfaction over the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court’s verdict that upheld the death sentence of Jamaat-e-Islami amir Motiur Rahman Nizami for planning elimination of intellectuals and mass killings in Pabna during Bangladesh’s war of independence in 1971.
Earlier, the leaders and activists of Ganajagaran Mancha, a campaign for war crimes trial, had gathered at the Shahbagh intersection in the capital to express their reaction on the verdict. As soon as they learnt about the verdict, they began rejoicing.
Slogans were chanted while many were seen hugging each other.
Hailing the AD’s verdict, Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar said, ‘Justice has been served and the people’s demand has been met.’
Imran said they are satisfied with the verdict and that they want ‘immediate implementation of it to free the nation from stigma’.
‘It is once again proved that the anti-liberation forces have no place on the soil of Bangladesh,’ he said.
He also announced that they would bring out a procession protesting the nationwide daylong hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami, protesting the verdict.
He also urged the law enforcing agencies to show no mercy to hartal supporters. He also asked his activists to resist the general strike.
Meanwhile, Ganajagaran Mancha of Chittagong chapter also expressed their satisfaction over the verdict.
