Punish arsonists of Brahmanbaria museum, demand activists

Cultural activists on Saturday at a protest rally in the city called on the Awami League-led government to take immediate steps to arrest the arsonists who had put a Brahmanbaria cultural museum on fire.
The activists demanded that guilty persons be given exemplary punishments.
Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation organised the rally in front of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, a public art and literary facility, protesting against destroying a museum on Ustad Alauddin Kha in Brahmanbaria on January 12, by some madrassah students.
Liyakot Ali Lucky, president of the Federation who chaired the rally, called on the government to award punishments to the persons responsible for the arson and vandalism, in seven days.
He said the cultural activists would announce tougher programmes and spread the movement countrywide, if there demand is not realised within the stipulated time, Lucky warned.
Actor Ramendu Majumder said the heinous forces had destroyed the museum in their bids to erase Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.
He called on the progressive political parties to be vocal against such destructions.
Golam Quddus, the president of the Sammilita Sanskritik Jote, said the attackers also vandalised educational institutes, hospitals, shops and railway station in Brahmanbaria town.
Actors Enamul Haque, Jhuna Chowdhury, Mannan Hira,   vocalist Fakir Alamgir and general secretary of Sanskritik Jote, Aktaruzzaman, spoke at the rally, among others.
