JMB coordinator, 4 others held by RAB

The Rapid Action Battalion detained chief coordinator and four members of banned Islamist outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh on early Friday.
Four time bombs, 49 primary detonators, 26 electric detonators, 10kg power gel, 155 different types of circuits, 55 Islami books and 45 bottom type bomb making materials were seized from the arrested including JMB chief coordinator Md Abdun Nur, said the battalion’s legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmud Khan at a briefing.

The battalion official said that the banded outfit activists were trying to hide their arms and explosive as different law enforcement agencies recently started drives against them.Mufti said that the banned militant outfit once again was regrouping.‘They were trying to contact with each other and also planning to make a massive destruction to a sensitive place to prove their presence in the country,’ added Mufti.

The five were basically leaders of Chapainawabganj and Pabna belt and now were regrouping the banned Islamist outfit under the supervision of its present chief Sohel Mahfuz, now in hiding, said the battalion’s intelligence wing director Abul Kalam Azad.
He said that that a team the battalion arrested the five JMB members at Munsur Ali railway station in Shirajganj on early Friday when they were heading for Joydebpur in Gazipur by train.

Nur was maintaining direct communication with Sohel Mafuz and planning for subversive activities, the battalion officials said.Nur was working to recruit new members for the outfit and contacted with other leaders, said Mufti.Asked about whereabouts of Sohel Mahfuz, Mufti said that the elite force was working on it. He also said that Nur was collecting funds for the outfit to reorganise their members.Nur is accused in six different cases filed with Tungipara, Moksedpur and Narayanganj police stations.
