Fighting radicalism through Rabindra philosophy stressed

Academics on Saturday sought massive initiatives to install the philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore into youth minds to prevent them from being radicalised.
If someone can realise the message of universality and humanity in Rabindra literature, they would never be influenced by or involved in extremism, they said at the launching ceremony of ‘Rabindra Jiban (3rd part)’ by language veteran Ahmed Rafiq at Bangla Academy Shamsur Rahaman seminar room.
Dhaka University professor Emeritus Sirajul Islam Chowdhury presided over the programme while Bangla Academy director general Shamsuzzaman Khan delivered welcome speech.
Professors Shafi Ahmed and Vishwadev Chowdhury addressed the programme, among others.
Shamsuzzaman Khan said that dissemination of values of Rabindranath could effectively prevent the spread of parochial extremist ideologies and protect the young generation.
‘We need to revisit Rabindranath to find the very root of Bengali culture and entity,’ he added.
Rabindranath has become an inseparable part of our lives, said Sirajul Islam Chowdhury.
Speaking on the timeless appeal of Rabindranath’s works, he said, ‘Rabindranath had always believed strongly that his creations would remain timeless; even a hundred years after his death, they would be cherished the same.’
Marking 75th death anniversary of the Nobel laureate poet, the Bangla Academy undertook a two-day programme, including unveiling of the book and discussion on the life and works of Rabindranth.
Like every years, the Bangla Academy will organise award giving ceremony ‘Rabindrapurosker-2016’ at the academy’s Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad auditorium this afternoon.
Dhaka University Bangla department professor Syed Akram Hossain and singer Tapon Mahmud were selected as the recipients of the award this year.
