Tofail quips at income of newspaper owners, editors

The minister for commerce, Tofail Ahmed, on Thursday quipped at the income of newspaper owners and editors saying that their income did not increase in the country but only the income of politicians increased. ‘Even income of their (media owners and editors) sons did not increase,’ he said while commenting on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index in Bangladesh that suggested disproportionate increase in income of politicians. The TIB’s report finds that income of politicians had increased only, he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with visiting German state minister for labour and social affairs Jorg Asmussen at the secretariat.. The corruption perception index found that corruption in Bangladesh had increased for unholy practices of the influential persons including politicians. Tofail said the politicians had to remain silent because they had no newspapers. ‘Politicians cannot write every day (to defend them),’ he said. -
