Arms case filed against expelled BCL leaders

The two expelled leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League were sued Monday night for carrying firearms during the clashes with hawkers in an eviction drive at Gulistan in the capital on October 27.
‘Police has lodged a case under arms act with Shahbagh Police Station against two arms holders. They are Sabbir Hossain and Ashiqur Rahman,’ Dhaka Metropolitan Police joint commissioner (detective branch) Abdul Baten, emerging from a press briefing at DMP media centre, told reporters.
He said that the DMP’s east zone of DB had been conducting raids to arrest the two ‘miscreants’ and to recover the firearms they used.
‘Whatever be their (expelled BCL leaders) political identity, they committed criminal offence and we hope to arrest them soon,’ he said.
Shahbagh police said sub-inspector Abdul Mannan of the police station filed the case accusing about fifty people including the expelled Chhatra League’s Dhaka south city unit general secretary Sabbir Hossain and expelled Wari thana unit general secretary Ashiqur Rahman.
They were seen wielding fire arms during the eviction drive by Dhaka South City Corporation at Gulistan in presence of police.
Sabbir and Ashiqur fired gunshots during the clash.
Earlier on Monday, Bangladesh Chhatara League expelled the two leaders for breaching discipline.
