BNP leader Nasiruddin Pintu dies

Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu died of cardiac arrest at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital on Sunday.Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin, director of the hospital, said Nasiruddin Pintu, also a former lawmaker, was rushed to the emergency department of the hospital after he felt severe chest pain in Rajshahi Central Jail.Earlier, the Election Commission had cancelled his nomination for Dhaka South City mayoral polls as he did not provide adequate information, the returning officer said.He was serving life-term in the BDR carnage case. His lawyer Aminul Islam said that for reason unknown to him, Pintu was moved to Rajshahi penitentiary from Narayanganj jail.He told New Age that the authorities also violated an advice in accordance with a writ petition before the High Court that his client be kept in a hospital close to the specialised BSMMU or an Eye Hospital. ‘The jail authority ignored the advice,’ Aminul Islam  said.‘Now, I ask who is responsible for his death?’ he said. He urged upon the authorities to investigate into his death and take necessary actions.Pintu was handed down life-term by a special court on November 5, 2013 in the BDR carnage case.
