‘BNP in alliance with Jamaat for vote’

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday said that the party was guided by the ideals and philosophy of its founder late president Ziaur Rahman and it was in alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islami for vote.
The party spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon at a briefing at BNP central office said that the BNP was safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and democracy following the ideals of Zia.
He made the remarks being asked about the remarks made by Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, also BNP’s founding secretary general, at a function on Friday that BNP’s politics was influenced by Jamaat and the party would be free from the influence soon.
He said that ideal of Zia was the baseline of BNP’s key policy and there was no scope to step aside.
Asked whether there was any international pressure to cut ties with Jamaat, Ripon, also the BNP international affairs secretary, said that he had never heard of it.
He said that BNP was in the alliance with Jamaat for vote and democracy.
He said each party in the alliance was doing their respective politics.
He said that Sammyabadi Dal was also in the alliance and it did not mean that BNP had turned into communist.
The BNP spokesman came down hard on the finance minister AMA Abdul Muhith for ‘disorder in financial and banking sectors’ in the last seven years.
He said that the finance minister failed to take any action against people responsible for plundering and siphoning off huge money from the state owned banks and financial institutions.
He strongly criticised for reappointing the managing directors at state owned banks who had failed to check or helped the plundering of public money from the banks.
BNP leaders Abdul Latif Jony, Asadul Karim Shahin, Habibur Rahman Habib and Abdus Salam Azad were also present at the briefing.
