Immediate execution of Mojaheed demanded

The ruling Awami League, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Workers Party of Bangladesh and Ganajagaran Mancha faction expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court judgement upholding the death sentence for 1971 war crimes convict Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed. Awami League held rallies and processions in different districts including Chittagong, Bogra, Dinajpur, Moulvibazar, Faridpur demanding immediate execution of Mojaheed, reported New Age correspondents in the districts. In release, CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim and its general secretary Syed Abu Jafar Ahmed said, ‘We, along with the whole nation, are expressing satisfaction over Mojaheed’s death sentence. WPB president Rashed Khan Menon and general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, in a statement demanded immediate execution of Mujaheed. They also demanded ban of Jamaat and its student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir. Ganajagaran Mancha faction, a platform campaigning for capital punishment for all war criminals, welcomed the Supreme Court judgement. Mancha spokesman Imran H Sarkar expressed his satisfaction over the judgement at a rally in the capital’s Shahbagh immediately after the verdict was pronounced. He also demanded immediate execution of the verdict.
