One-fourth of Bangladesh Covid patients fully vaccinated

An Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research study has found that around 23 per cent of Covid patients in Bangladesh are fully vaccinated.

The study, conducted between May and June for assessing vaccination impacts, on 1,334 Covid patients found that 306 of them were fully vaccinated while 592 people took no shot.

The fully vaccinated people were infected with Covid-19 at least two weeks after their vaccination, said the study.

The IEDCR uploaded its study findings on its website on Sunday.

About 11 per cent of the unvaccinated people complained breathing difficulties, far higher than 4 per cent of fully vaccinated people making a similar complaint.

The number of people with comorbidities developing breathing difficulties was 10 per cent higher among unvaccinated individuals compared with vaccinated ones, said the study.

The hospitalisation rate among the unvaccinated Covid patients was 23 per cent against only 7 per cent of the vaccinated people requiring hospitalisation.

The percentage of unvaccinated people with comorbidities needing hospitalisation was 32 while only 10 per cent vaccinated people needed hospitalisation, said the study.

A total of 19, or 3 per cent, of the unvaccinated people needed intensive care against three vaccinated people needing the same care.

A total of 17 of the unvaccinated people died while one of the vaccinated people died, said the study.
