At least 10 people missing as ferry sinks in Dhaleshwari

At least 10 people went missing after a ferry capsized in the River Dhaleshwari off the coast of Narayanganj’s Sadar upazila following a collision with another vessel on Wednesday, officials said.

Rashed Bin Khaled, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense control room, said the ferry with 60-70 passengers on board sank in the river after being hit by the Dhaka-bound vessel near the Dharmaganj ghat around 9:00am.

While many passengers managed to swim ashore, ‘at least 10 people are missing’, he said. ‘Five divers from the local fire service are conducting rescue operations.’
