Ex-communications minister Syed Abul Hossain dies

Former communications minister and ex-Awami League lawmaker Syed Abul Hossain died at a hospital in Dhaka early Wednesday. He was 72.

‘The ex-minister died at our hospital at about 2:05 am today,’ the duty manager of United Hospitals Limited in Dhaka told New Age in the morning.

He was admitted to the hospital Tuesday evening with severe heart problems and his body was taken to the mortuary of Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka at about 3:45am, he said.

The AL leader left his wife and two daughters to mourn his death.

Born on October 1, 1951 in Dasar village in Madaripur, Syed Abul Hossain was elected lawmaker for the first time from Madaripur-3 constituency with Awami League ticket in the fifth parliamentary election in 1991.

He was elected lawmaker from the area for three more terms.

He was the communications minister of Bangladesh from 2009 to 2012.

Earlier, he was the state minister for local government, rural development and cooperatives in 1996-97.
