Bangladesh’s businesses to be affected if Jan 7 election not fair: EC

Election commissioner Anisur Rahman on Sunday said that there was a possibility that the country's trade and commerce would be affected if the January 7 general election was not free and fair.

’If there is no fair election, the future of the country will become uncertain. Bangladesh may be isolated from the world,’ the election commissioner said.

He came up with the remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of the training programme for executive magistrates on the occasion of the 12th parliamentary elections at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka.

‘We have no option but to conduct a fair, free and acceptable election. So you have to do your duty impartially. This election is not only for us. The whole world is watching it,’ he said.
