Zaglul Ahmed Chy killed in road accident

Senior journalist and South Asian analyst Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury was killed in a tragic road accident in the city’s Karwan Bazar area on Saturday night. He was 65. Zaglul fell from a bus while getting down and received fatal injuries at Karwan Bazar intersection. Syed Abdal Ahmad, general secretary of the Jatiya Press Club, said that the accident happened as the bus suddenly started moving while the senior journalist was getting down. Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury was going to private television channel ‘ntv’ at Karwan Bazar to take part in a talk-show when he met the accident.

Zaglul, former managing director and chief editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, was taken by pedestrians to a nearby clinic before he was shifted to Comfort clinic on Green Road where the attending doctors pronounced him dead at 8:00pm. His body has been kept at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University mortuary. He is survived by his widow, a son and a daughter to mourn his death. Zaglul’s body will be brought to the National Press Club today and his namaz-e-janaza is likely to be held after Asr prayers. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in separate messages expressed deep shock at the death of Zaglul Ahmed and conveyed their sympathy to the bereaved family. Jatiya Press Club president Kamal Uddin Ahmed Sabuj and general secretary Abdal Ahmed also expressed deep shock at the tragic death of Zaglul. Zaglul wrote on South Asian affairs for various national and international newspapers and journals, including Time magazine, and worked as a diplomatic correspondent during most of his career.
