Court defers charge framing hearing, recording deposition against 67 BNP men

A Dhaka court deferred the charge framing hearing and the recording of testimonies in 2 cases against Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 66 others to December 24. They have been charged with vandalism and obstructing police from discharging their duty. Metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Tarek Moiunul Islam Bhuiyan moved the date for recording depositions against 41 BNP men as the scheduled witnesses did not show up before the court today.

In another development, the same court set the same date for framing charges against 26 BNP men. The court passed the decision in response to a time petition filed by the defence team. A number of 35 BNP men including Mirza Fakhrul, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Aman Ullah Aman and Habib-un Nabi Khan Sohel, were present in the court. The police had filed two cases against 67 BNP leaders and activists with Paltan police station on March 4 and March 13 last year for obstructing police from discharging their duties and resorting to vandalism during the party’s political programme.
