Hasina unveils AL’s 21-point manifesto

The ruling Awami League on Tuesday unveiled its 21-point election manifesto for the 11th general election scheduled for December 30 with the slogan Bangladesh on the march towards prosperity.

The party president Sheikh Hasina, also the prime minister, at a programme at Sonagaon Hotel read out the manifesto.

Unveiling the manifesto Hasina called on countrymen to cast their votes in favour of the party’s symbol ‘boat.’

‘You cast your votes in favour of boat and we will give you development of the country,’ Hasina said.

The AL president said all the facilities which the city people enjoy will be extended to rural areas turning those into towns.

‘Each village will be connected to upazila towns,’ she said.

Hasina announced that employment opportunities will be created for 1.24 lakh youths, while 1000 youths — both male and female — in each upazila will get overseas jobs if her party is voted to power again.

She also promised to take steps to make parliament more effective and strengthen the judiciary.

The main pledges  in the manifesto are — bringing city-like developments in villages of the country, taking steps for the development of youths by crating them proper work forces, taking zero tolerance policy against corruption, taking steps for the development of the women, establishing men-women equality, steps for the development of the children, ensuring nutritious and safe foods, eradication of terrorism, communalism, sectarianism  and drug abuses, implementations of the mega projects first, strengthening democracy and rule of law, eradication of the poverty, increasing qualities of education in every stage, increasing investments in public and private sectors, ensuring qualitative health services for all, increasing use of digital technologies, ensuring power and energy securities, introduction of modern agricultural system, introduction of trained and people friendly administration, introduction of pro-people law enforcement forces, starting use of ‘Blue Economy,’ ensuring road safety, taking steps for the welfare of senior citizens, disabled and autistic children and ensuring proper developments for establishing developed Bangladesh.

The party general secretary Obaidul Quader and chairman of the manifesto preparatory committee Muhammad Abdur Razzaque gave welcome speech at the programme and publicity and publicity secretary of the party Hasan Mahmud conducted the programme.
