Fakhrul returns home

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir returned home tonight (Monday night) after taking medical treatment abroad for nearly two months, report United News of Bangladesh.

‘Mirza Fakhrul arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by a Singapore Airlines flight around 10:40pm,’ BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told UNB.

Senior BNP leaders, including Abdullah Al Noman, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Asaduzzaman Ripon, Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Imran Saleh Prince, received him at the airport.

Sayrul said Fakhrul went to Singapore on Sunday from the USA to consult his doctors at National University Hospital, Singapore before returning home.

A party senior leader, wishing anonymity, said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, now in London, asked Fakhrul to return home to look after the party as she is now outside the country.

Getting released from jail six months after his arrest, the BNP acting secretary general went to Singapore for treatment at the National University Hospital there on July 27. He has blockage in his internal carotid artery.

On August 10, he went to the USA from Singapore for a surgery to have the blockage removed at Cornell Hospital.
