Prices of broiler, potato, soya bean oil go up

The prices of broiler, potato and soya bean oil increased in the city’s retail markets over the week ending Friday.
Retailers said that the prices of broiler and potato increased due to a supply shortage while that of unpacked soya bean oil went up as the refiners increased the rate.
The price of broiler increased by Tk 5 a kg and the item was selling at Tk 125-Tk 135 a kg while the locally-bred hens were selling at Tk 280-Tk 320 a kg on the day.
The price of beef remained high and the item was selling at Tk 370-Tk 480 a kg while mutton was selling at Tk 500-Tk 550 a kg on Friday.
Potato price increased by Tk 5 a kg and the item was selling at Tk 40 a kg over the week while the newly-harvested potato was selling at Tk 50 a kg.
Price of unpacked soya bean oil increased by Tk 2 a litre and the item was selling at Tk 78-Tk 81 a litre on Friday while palm oil was selling at Tk 64-Tk 66 a litre on the day.
The price of bottled soya bean oil remained unchanged. A one-litre container of soya bean oil was selling at Tk 100 while a five-litre container was selling at Tk 470-Tk 480 on Friday.
The prices of vegetables remained stable during the week.
Aubergine was selling at Tk 40 a kg, bitter gourd at Tk 30 a kg, okra at Tk 40 a kg, cauliflower at Tk 25 a piece, cabbage at Tk 25 a piece, beans at Tk 30-Tk 40 a kg, cucumber at Tk 30 a kg, tomato at Tk 60 a kg, papaya at Tk 30 a kg and green chilli at Tk 80 a kg over the week.
The price of onion decreased by Tk 5 a kilogram over the week.
The local variety of onion was selling at Tk 60-Tk 65 a kg on Friday while the imported one was retailing at Tk 45 a kg.
The local variety of garlic was retailing at Tk 90 a kg while the imported one was selling at Tk 120-Tk 130 a kg on Friday.
The price of egg remained high and the item was selling at Tk 32 a hali (four pieces) in the city.
Sugar was selling at Tk 45-Tk 46 a kg on Friday.
The prices of fish remained unchanged over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 200-Tk 320 a kg, Katla at Tk 200-Tk 300 a kg, Pangas at Tk 140-Tk 200 a kg and Tilapia at Tk 120-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
Red lentil price also remained unchanged. The fine variety of the item was selling at Tk 120-Tk 130 a kg while the imported one (coarse variety) was selling at Tk 100 a kg.
The price of coarse variety of rice was retailing at Tk 32-Tk 34 a kg over
the week.
The fine variety of Miniket rice was selling at Tk 50-Tk 53 a kg while the coarse variety was retailing at Tk 44-Tk 48 a kg in the city’s retail market.
The fine variety of BR-28 rice was selling at Tk 42-Tk 45 a kg and the coarse variety was selling at Tk 38-Tk 40 a kg on Friday.
